FreeHomeComputer.org Mission Statement: To provide free home computers to families and
seniors in our local area who would not normally be able to
afford one. To provide home computers for families and seniors at a very low cost and yet are fully functional for today's applications and the internet. How we came to be: Many of our friends knew they needed home computers
for their childrens education in order to function in today's tech world, but could not afford the top of line,
high priced retail computers on the market. We would buy basic computers and upgrade them with cdroms, modems,
speakers etc. and sell them to our friends saving them hundreds of dollars. As word got out, our relatives, (uncles, aunts etc.) who are seniors, asked for the computers,
since they were limited in income and wanted something to try without spending a lot of money in case computers
were not their thing. In Feb. 2000 we sold a computer to a friend of a friend in Reading, a single mother attending
R.A.C. C. during the day, working and providing for her 5 children. Although she could not even afford the $350
for one of our computers, she was determined to get one for her children and for her college homework. SHE DID at great sacrifice. A simple thought occured to us, can we raise/earn money to provide a home computer to other
families and seniors in our community who can't afford one? The plan: Form a non-profit, charitable association to raise money
to provide computers. Obtain grants/loans for Women in Business to start association. Solicit local businesses to contribute. Provide a form to apply for free computers and distribute the form by hand, in the mail and downloadable
from a website. Offer contributors advertising and recognition on the website. Use the money raised and any profit from selling low cost computers to provide free computers. Free computer application form and donation/free CD-ROM form here.
The plan has been completed now we need your help to continue.
